  11. I remember Karl telling people on tex-k not to hold their breath since
  12. it would be a few months before he'd be able to finish rewriting
  13. kpathsea to use run-time configuration files, include the new latex2e
  14. files in lib.tar.gz, and update web2c.tar.gz to generate the new
  15. format files.  I'm thinking about getting the latex2e base and package
  16. files, moving the latex209 input files out of the way, and copying the
  17. new latex2e input files into /usr/local/lib/texmf on my own computer.
  18. I'd like to ask people who have already done this to tell us how they
  19. reorganized the files in /usr/local/lib/texmf so I can have a better
  20. idea of where to put stuff.  The instructions in

  24. discuss only the base files; they don't help much in deciding where
  25. old and new versions of add-on packages like graphics, psnfss, and
  26. tools go.  In particular, did latex2e and psnfss work out of the box
  27. or did people have to copy new .map and .fd files from somewhere to
  28. /usr/local/lib/texmf/fonts?
